Shopify vs. WooCommerce in Tunisia: Which One Should You Sell On?

Shopify and WooCommerce both power serious stores, and the 'which is better' framing misses the real question: which one fits how you'll actually run the business, especially around Tunisian-specific constraints like local payment gateways and hosting.
Shopify is a fully hosted, monthly-fee platform — no server to manage, fast by default, and a huge app ecosystem, but international-first: local Tunisian payment gateways (Clictopay, Konnect) aren't natively supported the way they are with WooCommerce, often requiring a workaround or third-party integration, which matters a lot if most of your customers pay locally.
WooCommerce is free software running on WordPress, hosted wherever you choose — more setup responsibility, but far more flexibility for local payment integrations, custom checkout logic, and content-heavy sites that combine a blog or informational content with the store. The tradeoff is that WooCommerce needs real maintenance (see our WooCommerce maintenance guide) to stay fast and secure, where Shopify handles that layer for you.
The practical rule: if most sales are local and payment-gateway flexibility matters, or the store needs to be part of a larger content site, WooCommerce usually wins. If the priority is speed to launch, zero server management, and mostly international card payments, Shopify is often the simpler choice. We build on both and pick based on the actual business, not a platform preference.
